Kidding Schedule 2023
This year we decided to kid on a more conservative schedule than last year. Currently I have three Nigerian Dwarf Goat does in milk, Merry, Zelda, and Fiesta, and with our consumption we are able to keep up with what the three does give us. Since we have retired Merry from any future kidding we are going to keep her in milk for a little while longer. She is an excellent producer and as long as we keep her healthy we don’t need to cover her. When the intense heat of the summer hits us she may decide to dry up on her own. To be fair though, she loves eating the treats she gets on the stand when milking so I’m not sure if we will have to dry her out or if she will dry out on her own like both LuLu and Lola did.
Since we didn’t want to worry about kidding in the middle of winter we decided to wait to breed our does until January giving us a late spring early summer kidding season. 2023 does to kid are Martin’s Serendipity LuLu to Elfin Acres JD Hastings & Martin’s Serendipity Lola to Elfin Acred OR Zanadu. Both LuLu and Lola are direct sisters of the same freshening from Elfin Acres MD Merry & Martin’s Serendipity Ramsus. Through their dam Merry both LuLu and Lola bring Caprinos RO In a Blue Moon, and Camanna LI Moonlight Dandy. Though their sire Ramsus they bring Pholia Farm HB Rogue, and Caprinos BBJ Irene.
Lola was crossed with Zanadu in January and is due to kid May 23, 2023. This will be Lola’s second kidding. Her first kidding was very easy for her where she gave us one doe and two bucks. We retained her doe Sasha and wethered her bucklings. Zanadu’s dam is Elfin Acres ET Zahra and his sire is Oak Apple Orpheus.
LuLu was crossed with Hastings in January and is due to kid June 4, 2023. This will also be LuLu’s second kidding and her first was also very easy on her. LuLu gave us three does with her first kidding. We retained Vera and Miranda from her first kidding. Hastings dam is Elfin Acres MC Ruby Begonia (Polled) and his sire is Oak Apple Jimmy Doolittle.
We have great expectations from this years kidding. Our goal is not to produce kids who just look amazing for the show ring but excellent producers with great udders and who give amazing tasting milk.
